Four Auburn firefighters promoted

AUBURN, Ind. -- The Auburn Board of Works and Public Safety approved the promotion of four Auburn firefighters during the Tuesday, JuJoseph Molargikne 7 meeting.

Later that evening the four firefighters appeared at the Auburn Common Council meeting for their official swearing-in ceremony. Mayor Mike Ley swore in each of the firefighters in front of a large audience of family and friends. After each firefighter took the oath of office for their promotion a family member chosen by each firefighter pinned his new badge to his dress blues.

The promotions were part of restructuring taking place within the department after the retirement of Chief Mike VanZile after 18 years with the department. Former Deputy Chief Doug Cox was promoted to Chief on Thursday, June 1. Cox became a full-time firefighter with the Auburn Fire Department in 1997 after leaving his career in business and accounting.

Cox began his career as a volunteer firefighter with the Washington ToAndrew MaloneyPaul WhiteBenjamin Fliehmanwnship Fire Department in Allen County in 1991.

  • Division Chief Andrew Maloney
  • Captain Paul White 
  • Lieutenant Benjamin Fliehman
