Semi-professional soccer being played in Auburn

On a cold and damp Sunday afternoon Mayor Mike Ley spent a portion of his afternoon taking in a soccer match between Fox United and Lions Sports Club, from Columbus, Ohio.

The semi-professional soccer club, which is part of the United Premiere Soccer League’s 4th division plays its home games at Ranger Field at the YMCA of DeKalb County’s soccer complex on Indiana Avenue. The UPSL is part of USA Soccer and affiliated with Fort Wayne Football Club.

The team, which plays its home games in Auburn and is based out of Ligonier, has competed for the past two seasons in the UPSL. The team includes several players from Ligonier, Fort Wayne, Elkhart, Goshen, South Bend and Sturgis, Michigan.

The team consists of men ages 15 through 31, playing teams from Chicago, Lafayette, Indianapolis, and Columbus.

The team lost its game Sunday afternoon 3-1 to the Lions Sports Club on youth soccer night. During the game Evan Komrska, 19, from Canterbury High School scored his first goal with the team.

The team is encouraging local soccer fans to come out and cheer them on this season. The team’s next home game will be May 7 at 2 p.m. followed by May 21 at 2 p.m. and the season finale on June 11 at 2 p.m.20230424_103037_0000
