AUBURN, Ind. – Auburn Mayor Mike Ley capped off his last Board of Works and Public Safety meeting Tuesday by recognizing five longtime government officials.

As Mayor, Ley has chaired the Board of Works for the past four years alongside Danny McAfee and Herb Horrom who have a combined 40 years of experience on the board. Through two stints on the BOW McAfee has given 28 years to the City serving from 1984-87 and 2000-2023.

Horrom was appointed to the BOW in 2011. With the new administration in 2024 both board members have chosen retirement.

“These two gentlemen do their homework to make these meetings run smooth,” Ley said. “Thank you for all you have done and your dedication to the City.”

Horrom said he has immensely enjoyed working alongside Mayor Ley, Danny McAfee and Erik Weber, City Attorney.IMG_0677

“Anytime we needed additional info a simple visit or phone call to department heads had it answered,” Horrom said.

Ley presented each of them with a desk clock in recognition of their years of service.

After honoring Horrom and McAfee the recognitions weren’t complete as Ley honored Clerk-Treasurer Patty Miller and Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Tina Shipe. Both are retiring at the end of 2023.

Miller has been part of the City’s administration for the past 47 years starting with the city in 1976. Shipe has 29 years with the city.

“You cannot let that service go unrecognized,” Ley said. “The City has been blessed.”

They too received desk clocks.

The last honor went to City Attorney Erik Weber who has served as City Attorney for the past 25 years.

“There is no harder working individual than Erik,” Ley said.

Ley said Weber has put in countless of hours for the city in efforts to make it a better place.

Weber was also presented with a desk clock and will continue his private practice.
