AUBURN, Ind. – Recently installed new water fountains at Rieke Park will afford visitors to the park the opportunity to refill water bottles while visiting the park.

The water fountains were officially dedicated Thursday night during a short ribbon cutting ceremony organized by Auburn Main Street and Auburn Junior Main Street. In attendance at the ceremony was Auburn Mayor Mike Ley, Auburn Parks & Recreation Director Eric Ditmars, Auburn Main Street Executive Director Ann Finchum, representatives of Auburn Junior Main Street and other key figures in the project.

The five fountains in Rieke Park are among 12 that will be installed in Auburn’s parks.

The project was a collaboration of the City of Auburn, Auburn Parks & Recreation Department, Indiana Housing & Community Development Association, Patronicity, Office of Community Rural Affairs and Auburn Main Street. Auburn Main Street’s Junior Main Street organization raised crowdfunding funds last spring to meet the matching grant opportunity from IHCDA and Patronicity. In 30 days Auburn’s Junior Main Street raised $18,675 which was matched with an additional $17,500 from Patronicity and the IHCDA.

The funding will allow the Auburn Parks & Recreation Department to update the water stations at Rieke Park, Auburn Skate Park, Thomas Park, Smith Park, Memorial Park and Eckhart Park.

The water fountains will bring the city’s water fountains up to ADA standards.

Auburn’s Junior Main Street representatives thanked all of the sponsors who helped make the project successful during  Thursday night’s ribbon cutting.

The Auburn Junior Main Street program meets at DeKalb High School and is accepting new members who would like to be involved in this year’s project, along with the AIM Virtual Leadership Program. Anyone interested in the program can reach out to Ann Finchum, executive director of Auburn Main Street at
